On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice.
Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials.
We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait!
As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work.
Hi everyone!
I've been trying to find good Discworld fanfic, but really haven't come across too much good stuff. Any of your recommendations would be appreciated! Although I'm partial to slash!fic, I'm willing to read anything as long as you think it's worth reading. :)
Yesterday my computer thought it might be jolly good fun to hide, move or otherwise mess about with quite a lot of my iTunes downloads, so that when I tried to play them a 'Not found, would you like to locate it?' message came up.
A search of my computer showed that said files were not coming out to play. Thankfully I was able to transfer them from my iPod.
It did the same with some non-iTunes tracks too, thankfully mostly ones I have on CD.

I saw this picture as a link to Sports Illustrated's gallery of crazy NFL fans, but when I saw it, the first thing I thought of was not a Bengals fan...
( What do you think? )

The Daily Mail getting themselves all steamed up about True Blood. Yet another 'unintentionally humourous in its stupidity' article from that particular paper.

Couldn't find any way to comment on the actual article, so I'll do so here...
Point one: True Blood is not for kids. It's an adult show, on at 10 pm.
Point two: Thanks Daily Mail for the huge spoiler about Sam!

Does Captain Jack ever reference his two missing years after The Doctor Dances, in Doctor Who or in Torchwood? Is there any reason a story resolving that issue couldn't be set between The Doctor Dances and Boomtown?

<3 Phil and I will be at Windycon this weekend! Yay! Also, We now have SQUEEZY CASTLE WULFENBACH AIRSHIPS in stock! Woo, I say. And also Hoo.
I'm a bad bad person who never uses her LJ account even though I should. The problem is that I got into live journal when I was addicted to Doctor Who fanfiction, unfortunately my Dr Who muse buggered off and I'm crap with a computer but I'll try be better this time! (Though I think at this stage anyone who had once friended me has probably given up so no-one will really care, ah well mea culpa)
You can find my con report and photos of today's program over here at my journal...
