Reminder to self: don't attempt to play DVDs on my computer until a) the DVD player has been changed, and/or b) I've downloaded a new driver. Despite appearances, it's not working will cut out and reboot the computer mid-play, causing a sign about the system recovering from a serious error to come up and slightly disconcert me.

Either that, or it just doesn't like Dara O'Briain...

You've probably seen the Star Wars = Harry Potter post, which has gone on to become an internet meme. This rather different interpretation of Star Wars is just as funny, a touch less waspish for those offended by such things, and matches my previous Votan/The Long Ships post rather nicely.

I'm two weeks late on picking it up, but with something this good, better late than never.

If you know the slightest thing about Old Norse, Viking literature or our little-known but very exciting Icelandic saga (obligatory nod to M. Python) then unless a new keyboard and monitor are at the top of your shopping list, do not have a mouthful of mead - or anything else - while reading it...

Our mighty Ops guys continue to slay spambots and balance load times on a highwire without a safety net (which is kind of tough dressed in full ninja gear). Down on solid ground, we're celebrating this week's virtual birthday party with a warm toast to pants. I wouldn't normally post something like this here, but I am frankly appalled by the votes on this cage match.

Aragorn vs. the Wee Free Men. Aragorn is currently winning with 67% of the votes; this is blatantly wrong. We all know who would come out on top, here. Aragorn may be a great warrior and the rightful king, but the Nac Mac Feegle would swarm him. He would lose. Badly. They would kick his arse.

Can we try to redress the balance a little, fellow Discworld fans? ;)

I am brand new to Farscape. Just watched the entire show in about three weeks. It was that AWESOME. & I'm so in love with John/Aeryn I had to make a music video.

scarfdad spent a few years right out of high school in a Jesuit monastery. When I was growing up in Omaha, where Creighton University is, it seemed to me like he knew every second Jesuit in the world. But during the seventies, eighties and nineties he lost his faith in the Catholic Church as an organization, and went searching for the root of Christianity to try and find out what Jesus Christ really taught unfiltered by corporate corruption - a sort of believer's historical Jesus. Many years of research has led him to the conclusion that we've been getting it wrong all this time. Jesus taught not forgiveness but tolerance, between which there's a subtle but important distinction: Forgiveness requires that a judgment be passed and tolerance requires that it not be.

Last night, Paypal allowed me to access its website[1] and iTunes Music Store let me sign in.[2] I haven't been able to do either of these for a few weeks.

Today, they've both gone back to not working again. Weird.

[1] Yes, I did buy a few things on EBay :-) I suspected it might go back to not working again so took my chance while it was there!
